Over their lifetime, compared to products that do not meet EPEAT criteria, the 200 EPEAT registered electronics purchased by Strategic Petroleum Reserve in Fiscal Year 2015 will result in environmental impact reductions including:

  • Reduce use of primary materials by 12,500 kg, equivalent to the weight of 2.5 elephants
  • Avoid the disposal of 108 kg of hazardous waste, nearly equivalent to the weight of one refrigerator
  • Eliminate 80 kg of solid waste

Energy-Related Savings
EPEAT’s requirement that registered products meet the latest ENERGY STAR specifications means these products will consume less energy throughout their useful life, resulting in:

  • Savings of over 12,500 kWh of electricity—enough to power 3 U.S. homes for a year
  • Avoidance of 43 kilograms of water pollutant emissions
  • Reduction of 6.36 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions— equivalent to taking 5 average U.S. passenger cars off the road for a year
  • $2,535 in energy cost savings
