Sustainable Business Oregon: EPEAT hires Frisbee to lead growth
EPEAT, a nonprofit registry of green electronic products, announced Thursday that Robert Frisbee will join the organization as its first CEO.
Portland-based EPEAT hires Frisbee, a well-known entrepreneur who most recently served as development director for the Oregon Sustainability Center effort, five years into its life as a source for green electronics purchasing.
Founded in 2006 as an initiative of the Zero Waste Alliance, EPEAT has grown to 50 member manufacturers who list more than 3,200 electronic products — including PCs and laptops — that have been verified across a number of factors as environmentally friendly.
Frisbee, whose contract as a fundraiser for the Oregon Sustainability Center project was at an end, has a background in technology and will be called on to further expand EPEAT’s membership and impact in addition to adding new product categories to the registry.
He leaves the OSC organization on the heels of news that the group working on the project would seek a private investor after failing to secure state bond financing. He had served as development director since June, 2010.
“He’s a visionary guy who’s done a lot of work with organization building and sustainability,” said Sarah O’Brien, director of outreach and communications for EPEAT. “He brings that balance between visionary leadership and tactical thinking.”
